Sunset Spots

‘Where’s a great sunset spot?’ Is a frequent question I get asked for those of our guests on a romantic holiday at Ekopod.  With the rugged North Cornish coastline, pretty villages, and stunning landscape we are lucky to have a great choice of gorgeous sunset spots around us. Here are my top seven sunset spots!

1)Tintagel Castle

Perched dramatically on the cliffside, Tintagel Castle is steeped in history and legend.  As the sun sets, the castle ruins are bathed in warm hues, creating the perfect photo op.

2) Port Isaac Harbour

This picturesque fishing village of Port Isaac comes alive during sunset. The bobbing boats, colourful cottages, and narrow streets are illuminated by the setting sun’s golden rays, creating a scene straight out of a postcard.  While there also enjoy strolling around the harbour or eating out at one of the many restaurants here.

3) Bodmin Moor

For a more rugged sunset experience, head to Bodmin Moor. The expansive moorland is dotted with granite tors and ancient stone circles and transforms into a tranquil oasis during sunset.  The wide-open skies provide an unobstructed view of the sun’s descent, making it an ideal spot for stargazers too.

4) Bude Sea Pool

One of my favourite places in general – the tidal pool at Bude offers a unique vantage point to watch the sunset. As the sun sets over the Atlantic Ocean, it reflects into the pool and you feel like you’re swimming through golden water!

5) Trebarwith Strand Beach

Trebarwith Strand is a hidden gem nestled between towering cliffs. As the tide recedes, it reveals golden sands and fascinating rock formations. During sunset, the beach becomes even more romantic with the sun setting behind the backdrop of crashing waves, and Gull rock.   There is no beach at low tide but the sunset is still spectacular over the rocks.  It’s a favourite spot for local photographers.

6) Rough Tor

For a panoramic sunset view, make your way to the summit of Rough Tor, the second-highest point in Cornwall. The hike might be a bit challenging, but the reward is well worth it. As the sun sets over the undulating landscape, the heather-covered moors and surrounding lakes are bathed in an ethereal glow.

7) Widemouth Bay

There’s a free carpark between Widemouth Bay and Bude. Pull in here and walk the short distance to the view point. Enjoy stunning views over the Atlantic bathed in the glow of the setting sun!
