Here are our top ten things to do in Cornwall this October Half term. All the activities recommended should keep the little ones entertained and are within 35 minutes of Ekopod Glamping Site.

1) Alpaca Trekking

Ever thought of alpaca trekking? Well if it’s been on your wish list, this half term is the time to tick it off.  Alpaca Trekking Bodmin are running three days of Halloween spectacular on the 27th, 29th and 30th October. It is £4 per person to view the farm (under 2s free).  This includes meeting and feeding animals such as meerkats and alpacas.  It’s then just £5 extra to walk the Alpacas. Crafting is also on offer for an extra £5. No dogs.

2) Bodmin Jail

For a suitably fitting Halloween experience why not head over to Bodmin Jail.  On Saturday they have their junior jailers tour of the jail. A tour they describe as full of ‘kid friendly nasty for brave 7+’.  A great wet weather option! Adults £15, children £12.50. Tour takes 1.5 hours.

3) Bodmin and Wenford Railway

Take a trip through the Cornish countryside this October half term on a beautifully restored steam train. Steam train trips available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday during October and the full trip takes 2 hours. Adults £18.50, children £9.50, under 3’s free, dogs £1.50.

4) Charlie Bears

Did you know that the World-famous Charlie Bears come from Launceston? Their home is open Monday – Saturday with a huge gallery of bears to view. This October half term one of the bear cubs has cast a spell over the bear house! There’s a treasure hunt of magic potions hidden amongst the bears that can break the spell and win you a prize. £3 entry, free for under 18 and over 60s.

5)Hidden Valley Puzzle Park

Hidden Valley opens up again for half term (22

nd October – 31st inclusive). It has a great new play park that only opened this summer and a mini steam train giving rides around the park. The main attraction though are their puzzle trails – suitable for a range of ages and dogs can come too, for the outdoor ones! Adults £14, child £13 under 3 free, dogs £1

6) Evenings at Ekopod

After busy days exploring come back to cosy evenings in front of the wood burner at Ekopod.  With Ekopod being off grid, it’s perfect for evenings spent connecting without the distraction of screens. Borrow board games from the barn, toast marshmallows or even carve a pumpkin.

7) Lanhydrock Stately home

Lanhydrock has an exciting half term lined up with its Penny Dreadful exhibition. Creepy characters from the Penny Dreadful stories come to life in Lanhydrock’s nurseries. Children can find haunted treasure, meet the characters, make their own Penny Dreadful and enjoy spooky treats in the café.  Alongside this is the normal activities of exploring the house and grounds, play area and child friendly cycle routs and bike hire. Dogs allowed in the grounds but not the house. Adults £18.70, child £9.35, under 5’s free

8) Pumpkin Fest

Ok this one is actually in Devon, but we’re so close to the border it’s not far at all. Hosted by Lifton Farm Shop. There is a huge pumpkin patch of all different shapes and sizes to explore along with pumpkin displays and spooky installations. There’s an award-winning magician for entertainment and a magic potion maize maze. £2.50 per person, under 1’s free and the Maize Maze tickets are discounted to £4 per person.

9) Surfing 

Top Ten things to do in Cornwall this October Half Term - Surfing

No trip to Cornwall is complete without giving surfing a go! However, after October half term a lot of the surf schools shut down.  So, make the most of this last opportunity to get in the water and learn a new skill. Local to us at Widemouth Bay you’ll find Freewave surf academy and Reuben Ash Surf School both £40 a session.

10) Trethorne Leisure Park

Twelve minutes down the road from us is Trethorne Leisure Park.  A huge soft play area will keep the little ones amused for hours (including an under fours area).  Highlights include a petting zoo, go carts, trampolines, zorb football, climbing wall and some pretty impressive slides.  Great as a wet weather option.
