Celebrating 9 Years of Ekopod: Looking Back on our Journey
This month marks a very special milestone for us here at Ekopod – nine years since Matt and I became the custodians of this little corner of North Cornwall.
People often tell you that working with family isn’t the easiest idea. Thankfully, after nine years of running Ekopod together, I’d say we’ve proved them wrong! There have certainly been plenty of challenges along the way, but it’s also been one of the most rewarding adventures we could have imagined.
Watching Ekopod Grow
One of the greatest joys of running Ekopod has been seeing the landscape evolve. For example, early on we planted some tiny saplings. Obviously trees are slow growing, but over nine years you can really see the different – they’re becoming established, creating more shelter for wildlife and adding to the feeling of the pods being immersed in nature. As custodians, we’ve always believed our role is to leave the land in a better state than we found it, encouraging biodiversity while creating somewhere guests can truly slow down and reconnect with nature and with the wildflowers and butterflies out in force this year it feels like we’re getting there!
It’s incredibly satisfying to walk around the site and see ideas that once existed only as conversations around the kitchen table become reality! Our plan for our geodome field, the safari field, our pods, our spa, our play area. Every improvement, every new planting project and every addition. I love that they now exist in real life1. While we’ve loved seeing the site develop, the very best part of the last nine years has obviously been the people we’ve welcomed here.
It’s been incredibly rewarding hearing from our guests how they’ve enjoyed the sites and the memories that they’ve made here from being able to truly relax from the stresses of every day life, romantic escapes, first glamping experiences, milestones such as baby moons and babies’ first holidays, to big birthday celebrations, engagements and weddings and honeymoons. Whether it’s evenings around the fire pit, soaking in an outdoor bath beneath the stars, exploring Cornwall’s coastline or simply enjoying the peace and quiet, it’s a privilege to know that Ekopod becomes part of so many happy memories.
Many of you have returned year after year, and seeing familiar faces come back and seeing families grow is one of the greatest compliments we could receive.
Highlights from Our Ninth Year
Looking back over the last twelve months, it’s amazing how much has happened.
Some of the moments that stand out most include:
- Celebrating my wedding to Ben here at Ekopod.
- Creating a brand-new play area for younger guests.
- Refurbishing Nessa’s bathroom (the first bathroom we installed) and adding a beautiful new outdoor bath.
- Seeing the Northern Lights dancing above the site – a truly unforgettable evening.
- Being featured in The Times.
- Watching our geodome, Peswara, appear on Escape to the Country.
- Winning Gold for Glamping Business of the Year at the Cornwall Tourism Awards.
Each milestone has been exciting in its own way, but together they remind us just how much Ekopod continues to grow and evolve.
Thank You!
None of this would have been possible without you. Whether you’ve stayed with us once, returned many times, recommended us to friends, left a lovely review or simply followed our journey online, thank you. Your support allows us to keep investing in Ekopod, improving the experience for guests while continuing our work to restore and care for this special landscape. We genuinely feel incredibly lucky to do what we do.
